Outreach sessions
Thanks to funding from the Mercers’ Company, we will be delivering outreach packages to 5 residential facilities in Tower Hamlets between October 2016 and August 2017.
The packages run for 8 weeks and include an animal-assisted induction for staff and 7 consecutive animal-assisted and nature-based sessions for a group of 8 selected residents.
Sessions include;
- exploration of sensory materials
- observation & handling of guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens
- nature-based creative activities
- follow-up & feedback discussion
For more information, take a look at our Outreach Packages information pamphlet.
‘Thank you for bringing us these, it’s not often we get to see this kind of thing. It brings back memories of animals we used to keep.’
‘I thought it was most interesting, not the kind of thing you get to see. Really lovely, I’ll come again next time.’
Onsite sessions: Furry Tales Club
We’re delighted to be running a new weekly small animal care and gardening club at Stepney City Farm for people aged 60+. Furry Tales Club runs every Friday, 1:30-2:30, and invites participants to;
– plant herbs, vegetables and flowers
– learn how to healthcheck guinea pigs, rabbits and hens
– make arts and crafts items for the Farm
We’re looking for a consistent group of members so this is ideal for anyone who wants to attend regularly. Read about one member’s story here.
Families, friends and carers welcome – please get in touch if you’d like to join.
‘The lovely feeling I get – I feel good – it’s therapeutic. This animal is so happy it’s making me happy too!’
‘I enjoy socialising and meeting people, sharing my knowledge of the animals.’
